As a teenager, Meg Ryan was crowned
homecoming queen after the original queen was suspended. Maybe real-life events like this
have helped her to garner the stage title of "Queen of the Romantic
Comedies." Ryan's
motion picture career began in director George Cukor's final film, Rich and Famous, where
she played Candice Bergen's daughter.
Then, thanks to her standout
performance in the 1986 mega-hit Top Gun, Ryan began to grab the notice of Hollywood
casting directors. On her next film, Innerspace, she also grabbed the eye of her future
husband and co-star, Dennis Quaid.
But it was in the 1989 film When
Harry Met Sally that Ryan's cute-girl-next-door looks earned her a place in the hearts of
audiences around the world. Her immortal and hilarious "orgasm" scene in that
film also won her a spot in movie history. Although she continues to stretch her talents
showing up in dramas and even period films, she always returns to her first love,
comedy. |
