The Sammy Davis Jr. Story. It was executive-produced by Sammy's widow. They also plan to release a 2nd boxed set in the start of next year featuring never-before heard cuts including moments with the Pack. As we said goodbye to the Chairman I was quite taken by the outpouring of sympathy and web sites tossed together by the media. I happen to have been in Hoboken two days after and was interviewed by a Polish TV crew. We'll miss you, Frank! Here's a great collection of photos of the Boys to add to your collection courtesy of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (where we hope you can get a degree in gambling). Fan Ed Shirak has plans to open a Frank Museum in Hoboken next to the birthplace of Ol' Blue Eyes. Read more, here.
Live Sinatra, Martin, Davis Disc The SUMMIT (Buy direct from Amazon or CD Universe), a live 1962 recording of legendary singers and Rat Pack members Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr., will be released by Artanis (Sinatra spelled backwards) Entertainment Group, the Sinatra family's label. Recorded between Nov. 26 and Dec. 2, 1962, in the Villa Venice showroom in Wheeling, Ill., The Summit features Martin crooning parody lyrics to "When You're Smiling" (which becomes "When You're Drinking") and "The Lady Is a Tramp" before finishing his set with "An Evening in Roma." Sinatra croons such vintage tunes as "Goody Goody," "Chicago," "When Your Lover Has Gone" and "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You." Davis tackles "Out of This World" and "What Kind of Fool Am I." In between, the three poke fun at one another while teaming and trading off on each other's songs. Read More! Click here to listen to a previously unreleased Frank Song from Connnect2Music. Read the SINATRA FBI FILES at APB Online! Also, Dino and Sammy!
Also, check out the Smoking Gun's Frank Sinatra Page where you can read de-classified F.B.I. reports that must have gotten J.Edgar's panties in an uproar. Reprise Records is selling this monumental Ol' Blue Eyes CD pack of 454 songs. Capital Records has Sinatra releases too.
Okay all you scholars out there, time for a little get back to school. Here's a story from the NY Times on the HBO movie. And speaking of the HBO movie, gang, in case you missed this little bit of insanity -- SINATRA DAUGHTER FIGHTING RAT PACK MOVIE -- Tina Sinatra is so angry about HBO's The Rat Pack feature that she met with Ted Turner and asked him to intervene to stop the project, the New York Post reported. Turner, according to the newspaper, refused to intervene. Ray Liotta, who portrays Sinatra in the movie, received a box containing a replica of the horse's head used in The Godfather. A card inside was signed "T.S." (P.S. -- My inside Sinatra family resources tell me this is a TRUE story) Check out this great interview with Joe Mantegna and Shawn Levy (author of Rat Pack Confidential) as they talk to Terry Gross on Fresh Air! (you'll need RealAudio) Also, catch this Fresh Air show with interviews with Sammy Cahn, Nancy Sinatra, Matt Dennis (Angel Eyes) and Billy May after Frank's death. |
And
now, Dino-rino comes to the Net. Dig this, Kats.... "What
Andy Warhol was to the hip New York art and fashion world, Dean Martin was to rootless,
suburban Middle America." I've been rootless all my life, ya know? Anyways,
what we got here is a po-mo essay on the voice that drove a country to eating pasta.
Download it, tell Kenny to play some keyboards, and hope the Gold Diggers show up. From
Steven Shaviro at the DoomPatrols.
